US DATA: IBD TIPP Economic Optimism Index was released early due to
snowstorm. Jan optimism improved 6.1 points, or 13.3%, to 51.9 vs 45.8
in Dec. All components were up, 6m Economic Outlook gained 6.1 pts,
Personal Financial Outlook improved 4.8 pts, and Confidence in Federal
Economic Policies gained 7.2 pts. “Improvement in the job market, the
extension of unemployment benefits and Bush tax cuts are contributing to
the rise in confidence” as has the shift in control of Congress.
All the 21 groups advanced on the index. Poll was taken in 1st week in
Jan.
