–Key Democratic Senator Says Dems Willing To Tweak, Not Kill, New Law
–Sen. Schumer: ‘Confident’ Health Law Will Be Upheld By Supreme Court
–Sen. Schumer: Should Focus On Jobs, Not Refight Health Care Battle

WASHINGTON (MNI) – Sen. Chuck Schumer, the third ranking Senate
Democrat, said Wednesday that he’s confident the Senate will defeat a
Republican amendment to repeal the new health care law.

At a briefing, Schumer said there is “virtually no way this repeal
will pass” when the Senate votes on a Republican repeal amendment,
probably later Wednesday.

The House voted last month to repeal the new health care law on a
mostly party line vote.

Schumer said Democrats are open to revising parts of the law that
may be flawed, but said repealing the bill or fundamentally revising it
are not acceptable.

Schumer chided Republicans for trying to refight “last year’s
battle over health care,” rather than focusing on boosting the economy.

“The American people want to hear about jobs, the economy and the
middle class,” he said.

Schumer said that he is confident that the U.S. Supreme Court will
ultimately rule that the law is constitutional.

“I’m confident that the bill will be upheld as constitutional by
the Supreme Court,” he said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has said all 48 Senate
Republicans will vote to repeal the new health care law.

In comments to reporters after a Senate Republican luncheon
Tuesday, McConnell said Republicans want to kill the new health care law
which he said aims to “restructure all of American health care.”
