BERLIN (MNI) – A large majority of German citizens oppose a
financial contribution from Germany to an aid package for Greece, making
it harder for Chancellor Angela Merkel to agree to such a move should it
become necessary.

In a representative poll conducted by the Forsa institute for
German weekly Stern and released Tuesday, 68% of surveyed said they were
against a participation of Germany in aid measures for the fiscally
ailing Eurozone member state Greece.

Only 28% said they were in favor of a German contribution to such
an aid package.

Despite the Greek turbulence, 53% of those surveyed said they see
the euro as a stable currency while 44% said they were worried about the
common currency.

Forsa surveyed 1,004 respondents on Wednesday and Thursday last
week. Eurozone leaders last Thursday agreed on an aid package consisting
of IMF financing and coordinated bilateral loans from Eurozone states,
but only as a last resort.
