EUR/USD steady after slow Asian session; ECB rate decision awaited

EUR/USD sits at 1.4850, very marginally lower from where it closed out in North America Wednesday after a slow Asian session.

Fed duly pledged to keep rates “exceptionally low” for an “extended” period, as had been widely expected.

Today it’s the turn of the ECB and BOE.  I think I told a little fib in my headline. I don’t think the market’s really waiting for the ECB rate decision.  The feeling is that it’s a cast iron certainty the ECB will leave rates on hold at 1.0% and is likely to give little away as regards when it might start withdrawing loose monetary policy measures.  Europe’s economy is in poor shape and it’ll be sometime before we have to worry about the ECB tightening.

I’d think the BOE rate decision has far more potential to move EUR/USD than the ECB rate decision.  We’ll see.

Little Euro zone data due today:

10:00 GMT: Euro zone retail sales for September expected+0.2% m/m, -2.4% y/y

12:45 GMT: ECB interest rate decision

Meanwhile European stocks likely to open lower today.

Hi Bunty main event BOE rate decsion. Thnik they extend and by £50 bln. That makes sterling vulnerable. Given early sell-off looks like others of same conclusion

Good Morning Gerry & nice people of Forex Live…I read your last comment about “Gumusluk” — do not worry about it; all about my “system engineering qualities” (using an access point); configuration problems of laptops…so, hold on to your plan…
