Germany Econ Min: Good Chance Unemp Under 3 Mln By Year End
BERLIN (MNI) – German Economics Minister Rainer Bruederle sees good
chances that unemployment will fall below 3 million by the end of the
year, he said Thursday, pointing to the broad-based economic recovery.
Non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rose in July by some 39,000 to
3.192 million, the Labor Agency reported earlier today. (Adjusting for
seasonal patterns, unemployment fell 20,000 to 3.211 million, the agency
also said).
“The economic recovery has by now stretched into almost all
business sectors,” Bruederle remarked. “Chances are good that we will
fall below the level of 3 million unemployed by the end of the year.”
Labor Minister Ursula von der Leyen also said today that there is
reason to be optimistic for the further development of the labor market.
Yet, she warned not to get carried away by the current positive
development. “We’ve not yet completely out of the crisis,” she
cautioned.
