FRANKFURT (MNI) – Consumer confidence in the Eurozone fell in
January for the second time, dipping to a four-month low of -11.4,
preliminary estimates issued by the European Commission showed on
Thursday.

A number of forward-looking indicators in the Commission’s survey
in December had shown marked deterioration, including the financial
outlook for households over the next year and their outlook for the
general economy, both of which contributed to sentiment weakening last
month.

The decline in sentiment was broad-based across the Eurozone in
December, with only Germany, France, Austria, Slovakia and Finland above
their respective long-term average.

All the components of the Commission’s Economic Sentiment
Indicator, including the final consumer confidence figure, are scheduled
for release on Thursday, January 27.
