BERLIN (MNI) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Monday she is
confident that her center-right CDU/CSU-FDP coalition bloc will back the
necessary changes to the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) in
parliament at the end of the month.

The opposition center-left SPD and ecologist Greens have said they
will also vote with the government bloc for the changes. Yet, Merkel
stressed again today the importance for her government not to rely on
the opposition on that matter.

“We’ll need an own majority [for the EFSF bill] in the coalition
and I’m confident that we will get it,” the Chancellor said at a press
conference.

In other remarks, Merkel again dismissed the possibility that
Greece would have to leave the Eurozone over its fiscal problems,
stressing that this would cause a dangerous domino effect.
