US DATA: ICSC sales for Sep 3 wk: “September got off to a slow
start as the stock piling of staple goods in the Northeast in
preparation of Hurricane Irene slowed consumer spending and caused
weekly retail sales to slip from the prior week. As a result, for the
week ending September 3, overall weekly retail sales declined by 0.7
percent, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales
Index. On a year-over-year basis retail sales also felt the effect and
slowed to 2.7 percent.
