Japan’s government owns a tobacco company?

Nikkei up 0.2% at midday, Toppix up 0.5%. Sentiment is slipping and European shares are seen opening around 1.5% lower.

According to Reuters, boosting Japanese shares is news that Japan’s govt is considering selling its 50% stake in the world’s third-largest tobacco company. I know Japanese pensioners live for a long time but a government-sponsored tobacco company just doesn’t seem like the right solution.
