Italy earlier published figures showing 1.973 trillion euros of total debt at the end of June, up 6 billion in the month and 72 billion over the past year.

Today, Italy sold 53-week bills at 2.78% compared to 2.70% a month ago.

On Sunday, Economy Minister Vittorio Grilli said this year’s deficit target of 1.7% will be missed.

The main story remains the slide in 10-year borrowing costs to below 6% but the overall picture remains a concern as long as yields remain above 5.72%.
