BERLIN (MNI) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban sees no
automatic duty any longer for his country to join the Eurozone once the
country fulfills the necessary criteria.

“When we signed the accession treaty [to the European Union] the
Eurozone looked totally different,” Orban told German business daily
Handelsblatt in an interview to be published Thursday. “Thus, there
cannot be an automatic accession duty [to the Eurozone] any longer,” he
reasoned.

Joining the Eurozone would be “irresponsible” for Hungary at the
moment, the prime minister said.

Orban is scheduled to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel in
Berlin on Thursday.
