JAPAN DATA: Bank of Japan’s Tankan quarterly survey will show that sentiment
among major manufacturers will post the third straight quarterly fall in
December due to depressed exports and consumption, according to the median
forecast by four economists surveyed by MNI. The headline diffusion index (DI)
is forecast to slip to -9 in December from -3 in September and -1 in June. But
they believe the March DI will improve somewhat to -7, thanks to an expected
pickup in industrial output and a softer yen. The BOJ will release the outcome
of its December Tankan quarterly business survey at 0850 JST on Friday, Dec. 14
(2350 GMT Thursday). Five institutions are Sumitomo Mitsui Asset Management,
Credit Agricole, Norinchukin Research, Daiwa Institute of Research and Mizuho
Securities.
