Echoing Wolgang Shaueble’s concerns about minority parties causing ruling coalition governments some real problems in forthcoming elections UK cabinet minister Ken Clarke has today railed against the anti-Europe party UKIP.

With this week’s local government elections in focus Mr Clarke said

“It is against the political class, it is against foreigners, it is against immigrants. But it does not have any very positive policies. They do not know what they are for.The temptation to ordinary voters to vote for Ukip is that these are very difficult times, and the political classes are regarded as having got us into a mess.It is very tempting to vote for a collection of clowns or indignant, angry people, who promise that somehow they will allow us to take your revenge on people who caused it.

Think what you will of UKIP, or indeed the AFD in Germany and similar parties elsewhere, but there is a growing number of people in these austere times who will rally towards an alternative such as these parties offer. And it’s that political instability that will undoubtedly lead to currrency volatility as government policy, and its electoral support, becomes further undermined.

Just saying.
