The Bureau of Economic Analysis, Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor statistics could all suspend economic data next week if there is a government shutdown.

There are some different reports on the BLS with Bloomberg suggesting initial jobless claims would still be reported. The BLS says some data already collected could be released if authorized by the White House.

Construction spending on Tuesday could be affected as could claims and factory orders on Thursday. It’s not clear for NFP on Friday but a BLS memo says all survey operations would cease and the website wouldn’t be updated during a shutdown so it’s certainly at risk.

A remember a bunch of years ago when Statistic Canada had a long strike and something like 4 months of data was released at once. It would have been nuts if anyone cared what was happening in Canada
