Reuters earlier reported that Japan’s government is preparing a stimulus package in the ¥5.4 – ¥5.6tn range — which is only about $52 billion. A program has been rumored for months.

The size of the package is a modest disappointment as the BOJ struggles to manufacture inflation and with a sales take hike looming in April. From Reuters:

The government is to decide on the measures on Thursday, but precise amounts will not be spelled out until the Cabinet approves a supplementary budget on Dec 12, the sources said.

Watch out for details/leaks in the days ahead.
