Stanley Fischer, as widely speculated, will be nominated as vice-chairman. Jerome Powell will be re-appointed, which is no surprise. He took office on May 25, 2012 to fill an unexpired term that ends this month.

Lael Brainard is no big surprise either, although I hadn’t heard her name rumored. She’s an Obama administration insider and was the United States Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs but left in November, likely for a break before accepting this job. She’s extremely qualified and is a politically easy nomination because due to retirements, there will be very few women at the Fed in the next few months.
