A Swiss court ordered a Russian oligarch pay more than $4 billion after a divorce from his wife. She will become one of the world’s richest women if she collects the settlement. For perspective, Oprah Winfrey’s wealth is estimated at $2.9 billion.
Dmitry Rybolovlev, currently ranked 147 on Forbes’ list of billionaires is planning to appeal and the case has been pending since 2008.
The report says most of his money was transferred to Cyprus-based trusts in 2005. It’s widely believe that large parts or Russian wealth are stored in Cyprus but that may have changed since the country confiscated deposits after a bailout in 2012.
