A Reuters exclusive has Catalonia president Artur Mas saying that he will be seeking an independence vote in November despite opposition from the Spanish government. He does not see a negotiated solution to the Catalan separatist drive so wants to ask Catalonians two questions at the vote, whether Catalonia should be a separate state and whether that state should be independent.

While Scotland’s independence will be recognised by Great Britain the Spanish government have been opposed to such a vote in the region of 7 million people that generates a fifth of of the nations income. No doubt there will be much interest shown in the Scottish vote from Spain.

From a market perspective it’s unlikely that the vote, which looks more like a referendum will have an impact.
