A Gallup poll of 15,000 Americans and their daily spend saw average spending down to $91 from the six year high of $98 in May. It’s the biggest drop since 2008 for this time of year.
That number is a buck above the average a year ago but still well higher than the $60-70 between 2009-2012.
The amounts are taken from an everyday spend that doesn’t include home and vehicle purchases or normal monthly outgoings
The lower spend was driven by a fall in higher income earning spenders which fell to $157 from $189

We know that there is still an underlying weakness in consumer spending. The last retail sales numbers were pretty flat and that’s been the case for some time. However, the other side of the coin could see spending increase if prices start going up.
