The missing Air Algerie plane en route from Burkina Faso crashed in Mali, according to a UN rep cited by AP and Germany’s DPA.

An earlier report from Algerian television station Elnahar said the plane crashed after crossing the airspace of Niamey, Niger’s capital.

The Swiftair MD-83 crashed shortly after the plane requested to make a detour due to poor visibility near the Algerian border with Mali. The airline’s representative in Burkina Faso said there were 116 people aboard including 50 French citizens along with a Spanish crew.
