The Detroit News reports today that the FBI searched Ford’s world headquarters in a potential spying scandal.

A woman at the company was secretly taping meetings (for better note taking, she said) but the FBI searched her home and removed several devices.

Perhaps she’s innocent but there’s a climate of suspicion percolating in the corporate world. If the NSA is tapping Merkel’s phone, why not tap the phone’s of the leading German companies and pass those secrets to US competitors. Even if they aren’t I think we’re on our way to an era where companies act as if everyone is a spy. That disincentives innovation and productivity.
