Just caught up on a story from the Telegraph yesterday that says that Russian oligarchs are starting to get worried about European sanctions.
According to Germany’s Der Spiegel, German intelligence has briefed its foreign affairs committee that sanctions are starting to cause rifts between Russia’s money men and Putin.
“According to German intelligence it is quite possible that some of the oligarchs who are worried by European Union sanctions will soon start putting economic interests above political concerns and try to put the brakes on Putin”
Reading through the Telegraph story, and given the one I’ve just posted also, it seems the Germans are the ones who want to drive sanctions to hit Russia harder and that the sanctions may actually be hitting home.
While Putin counts many oligarchs on his side we all know that when money talks it often has the loudest voice.
