Healthcare workers in infectious diseases are truly the saints who live among us but even saints have limits.

Sierra Leon’s top ebola doctor contracted the disease last week and, sadly, he died today. Many, perhaps half, of the victims of the unprecedented ebola outbreak in West Africa are healthcare professionals.

Today it was revealed that two American healthcare who volunteered to help fight the outbreak with a Christian aid group have contacted the disease. Others are in quarantine after traveling home.

These men and women are some of the most cautious caretakers and their failure to interact with the disease safely will cripple efforts to contain the disease.
