The UK based chief envisioning officer of Microsoft says robots will make investment bankers, analysts and even quants obsolete within 10 years.

In an article in the Telegraph, Dave Coplin says that aside from undertaking complex mathematical equations they will start to draw logical conclusions and reduce the need for human interference.

“It would be hard to train a robot to be a nurse, or even a chef, but the City could be run by algorithms,” he said. “People who use their hands will have jobs for life.”

Adam is very big on the subject of technical advances and what it means for jobs and economies overall but I find it hard to imagine what the end game is for robots in finance. If everyone of them is tuned to look for the best deal and return there will be a point which they can’t exceed.

Aside from that, robots wouldn’t last 5 minutes on the Central Line at 7 o’clock in the morning
