Comments from Chicago Fed President Charles Evans Sept 24, 2014:

  • ‘Good deal of slack’ remains in labor market
  • Fed should not raise rates prematurely, it’s ‘biggest risk we face today’
  • Should hike rates only when confident on economy and inflation
  • Rate increases should be shallow to reduce risks
  • Fed can accept ‘modest overshooting’ of inflation target
  • Evans is a non-voter this year

“Raise rates? Not on my watch”

Evans is a dove but his candid views probably represent much of the core at the Fed, including Yellen.

The most unexpected thing in markets would be the Fed staying dovish, maybe we’re underestimating it?
