The figures point to a slightly weaker retails sales picture for September and even worse expectations for next month. The CBI said the grocery sector saw the most considerable drop off in business compared to last month.
Rain Newton-Smith was more upbeat on the overall picture though saying;
“Solid growth continues on the high street with most sectors doing decent business and department stores are performing particularly well.”
