Highlights of the September Chicago PMI:

  • Prior was 64.3
  • New orders at 60.0 from 65.6
  • Inventories highest in 41-years

The commentary in the report is upbeat:

September’s slight slowing was believed to be temporary as many businesses reported strong bookings through the end of October and in some cases through November.

Despite the setback in the Barometer, respondents deemed activity levels as “strong,” “surging,” and in some cases “flying”.
