The main highlight on the economic data calendar is the Canadian employment report at the bottom of the hour. I wrote a preview earlier.

Afterwards, it’s all about Fedspeak as the four most hawkish Fed members take turns delivering speeches.

  • 9 am ET (1300 GMT) – Plosser
  • 1 pm ET (1700 GMT) – George
  • 2:08 pm ET (1808 GMT) – Fisher
  • 3 pm ET (1900 GMT) – Lacker

The thing is, I don’t see this slate of speakers riling up the market. For sure the slant will be hawkish but that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

That said, the market is ultra-touchy right now and small headlines are getting blown way out of proportion. If anything, the commentary could give a lift to the dollar.

Fed hawks

Four hawks — bigger than Spud Webb

They won’t be the only speakers on deck. With the G20 ongoing, a handful of ECB speakers and others will be on the wires.
