In the Wall Street Journal (may be gated) … Japan’s Abe Set for Landslide Victory, Polls Suggest

  • Polls by the Yomiuri, Asahi and Nikkei newspapers as well as Kyodo News service all said the LDP was set to gain around 300 seats in parliament’s 475-seat lower house,
  • All the polls cautioned that many voters have yet to make up their minds, meaning the final outcome could change
  • Kyodo projected that the LDP would win between 305 and 334 seats, up from 295 seats previously, while it said the top opposition group, the Democratic Party of Japan, would win between 56 and 81 seats
  • Would give Mr. Abe a mandate to pursue policies such as opening Japan’s agricultural markets
