The Dow Industrial Average has cracked the 23,000 level for the first time ever. The run up from 22,000 to 23,000 took only 6 weeks.

CNBC reports that since August 2nd when the Dow first crossed the 22,000 level, the contributors to the Dow average has been:

  • Boeing 163 points
  • Caterpillar 147 points
  • Goldman 119 points
  • Home Depot 103 points
  • Chevron: 100 points
  • 3M 98 points

Those 6 stocks (of the Dow 30) have added some 730 points to the average. They are some of the largest cap names and the Dow average is skewed toward those stocks.

Negative contributors have been:

  • Nike
  • Disney
  • GE

The high reached 23002.20 today. The low reached 22948.23.

The S&P and Nasdaq has been trading a little up, and a little down for most of the day. The S&P is currently unchanged. The Nasdaq is also little changed (up 2 points or 0.03%).
