A preview of what's coming up on the calendar in the European trading session

Good day, everyone! Hope you're all doing fine as we get the day going. So far, there aren't any major moves in the FX space. Most currencies are relatively confined. The Asian session saw some moves in the dollar and also in the yen following the BOJ announcement here.

The yen gained on the back of the announcement (though as mentioned here, there aren't any significant changes to the BOJ's message) and is now slowly giving back some of that.

Anyway, here is what's coming up on the calendar for today's European session:

0600 GMT - Japan December final machine tool orders y/y

Not a major data point. Preliminary reading here. It measures the change in total value of new orders placed with Japanese machine tool manufacturers.

0630 GMT - Bank of Japan press conference

BOJ governor Kuroda is to give his views on the meeting decision. Expect it to be a boring one, as per usual from Kuroda.

0930 GMT - UK December public sector net borrowing figures

Not a major data point as it's a look into the budget deficit number. Prior reading can be found here. The expected reading today is for borrowing to come in at £4.3 bn, while the figures excluding financial intervention is expected to come in at £5.0 bn.

1000 GMT - Germany January ZEW economic sentiment and current conditions expectations

1000 GMT - Eurozone January ZEW economic sentiment expectations

Prior readings here. They are forward looking indicators, measuring expectations of economic growth over the next 6 months. Not expected to have too much of an impact on the EUR.

1100 GMT - UK January CBI trends total orders data

This is a survey on manufacturers to rate the level of volume for orders expected during the next 3 months. Generally volatile reading, a relatively minor gauge of the industrial health of the UK economy. Not a market mover with all respects.

That's about it for today. Not a whole lot of big data points. The only event of note is the BOJ presser, but it's unlikely to offer anything new.

As always, have a nice day ahead and good luck with your trading!
