According to a report by F.A.Z. on its website

The report says that the commission is warning member states of being "too optimistic" about the chances of obtaining an exemption to Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminium - although they intend to explore that possibility in further discussions with the US.

It goes on to say that the member states should expect the worst, while also noting that WTO disputes offers them a slim chance of resolving the situation.

The report also confirms that European Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmstrom wants to meet with US commerce secretary Wilbur Ross to discuss the matter some time next week.

Well, we're still pretty much awaiting the next move from the EU on the matter. It's still been all talk, but they're right on the WTO stuff though. WTO disputes and claims take forever to settle, that it pretty much doesn't even matter by the time a decision is made.
