EU Brexit negotiator out with a press conference 20 July

  • next Brexit talks must clarify reasons for disagreement over citizens rights
  • EU insists on role of European court
  • not yet at the stage of compromises
  • 3rd round of talks will be about clarification
  • need to identify which UK obligations to be settled

The clock's ticking and they can't even get that far in 2 rounds of talks? Ouch.

Not helping the pound's fortunes as we see further moves to 1.2933 and 0.8895

Now it's the UK's Davis' turn:

  • encouraged by progress in Brexit talks so far

What cloud is he sitting on exactly?

  • must sort out obligations owed on Brexit bill
  • solution will requite flexibility
  • doesn't recognize the term "net flow" re payments to/from EU
  • talks this week were robust
  • UK will not accept punishment deal but is not expecting one
  • the clock is ticking

No, really? That's ironic from the govt who has been well behind the clock from the off.

Sometimes I wish we'd never voted out. Would certainly have left my typing fingers in better shape. And I reckon the pound would still have come down, just a bit more slowly.

Currently still trawling session lows at 1.2940 and 0.8892

Barnier and Davis in Brexit talks. Be afraid, be very afraid.
