EU commissioner Jryki Katainen speaks to Bloomberg TV

  • Says that trade commissioner Malmstrom had a fruitful visit to US on trade
  • Things look brighter now than before
  • Wants to avoid a trade war with the US

Meanwhile, EU trade commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom is also out saying that she "expects that Wilbur Ross will recommend to Trump an EU exemption from metal tariffs". She also adds that the EU will not hesitate to act if they are to be subjected to US tariffs.

Malmstrom's comments basically sums it up. Pretty much relying on hope at this point. Still not the kind of thing that helps to ease the nerve of equity investors at this point.

EU officials are reportedly said to "expect Trump to announce tariffs exemption" later in the day. They seem rather confident about it. Let's wait and see.
