EU's Donald Tusk with scheduled delivery of Brexit draft guidelines 7 March
- don't want to build a wall between EU and UK after Brexit
- want to remain friends but drifting apart
- trade deal with UK will not make it smoother or more frictionless
- we will enter talks with open mind
- outcome of talks must pass test of balance of rights and obligations
- there is no possibility to have some exclusive form of single access for parts of the economy
- fully understands May objective to show that Brexit was right choice but that's not EU objective
I had the leaked advance sight of the document and some comment earlier here.
On Trump/US tariffs he says:
- trade wars are bad and easy to lose
- Trump announcements may have repercussions for EU
- will propose a debate at next summit this month
Meanwhile USDJPY still around 105.70 but GBPUSD and EURUSD finding some dip demand again at 1.3870 and 1.2415
USDCAD steady at 1.2925 as we wait on BOC and AUDUSD flat-lined too between 0.7800-20
