UK PM May begins her highly hyped Brexit speech in London 2 March

  • now living through an important moment in nation's history

Speech expected to last around 45 mins. I highlighted a few key areas/concerns in my preview earlier

  • 5 key tests for Brexit talks: Implementing the decision of the British people, Reaching an enduring solution, Protecting our security and prosperity, Delivering an outcome consistent with the kind of country we want to be, Strengthening the Union
  • now approaching crucial moment
  • no escaping the complexity of task ahead
  • referendum 'was not a vote for a distant relationship with our neighbours'
  • no one should be in any doubt about agreement made in December, despite concerns about draft treaty on Weds,
  • confident differences on implementation period can be resolved by March summit
  • rules out existing trade deal models, poor old Norway and Canada
  • implementation must be time limited
  • we do not want to go back to a hard border in Ireland
  • if EU want to impose one that's down to them but I will not let the union of the UK be removed
  • need to strike a new balance in Brexit talks

"I want to be straight with people - we all need to face up to some hard facts' - 'in certain ways our access to markets will be less than it is now' - we can't have all the benefits without all the obligations"
