Further comments from Lega leader Matteo Salvini

  • Still convinced euro is a bad currency
  • Convinced that euro is poised to come to an end
  • Lega is not available for grand coalition governments
  • Willing to talk to all parties
  • But holding a referendum on the euro is unthinkable

Euro marked a little lower on those comments. EUR/USD to 1.2318, EUR/GBP to 0.8910. Both about 5-6 pips lower, nothing too major.

But this will do little to ease fears of those hoping that Lega will be less euro-skeptic than anticipated. After the Five Star Movement party, Lega is the next biggest anti-establishment party in Italy and Salvini's comments here are already showing their colours.

At least his final comment says that they are not putting the thinking into action just yet. But given time, who knows?
