Dow up but not as much
The Nasdaq composite index is closing the day above 7000 for the first time ever. So bring out the New Year's party horns, and pop the champagne, as it, and the S&P are closing at record levels.
The final numbers for the day:
- S&P index is ending up 22.20 points or 0.83% at 2695.81. That is above the prior record close at 2690.16.
- The Nasdaq is ending at 7006.898. That smashes the prior record close at 6994.76. The index today is up 103.51 points or 1.50%.
- The Dow only rose by 104.79 point or 0.42% at 24824.01. It was not a record for the Dow.
Some out performers on the upside included:
- Apple up 1.79%
- Alphabet up 1.78%
- Netflix up 4.75%
- Nvidia up 3.02%
- Alibaba up 6.44%
- Twitter up 2.08%
- First Solar up 4.31%
- Gilead up 3.43%
- Disney up 4%
- Micron up 6.2%
Some under perfomers today included:
- Caterpillar down -0.35%
- Home Depot -0.78%
- Citigroup -0.05%
- Microsoft was not down, up ONLY by 0.48%
Let me see, if the Nasdaq increases by 1.5% per day, compounded that might rival the gains from Bitcoin in 2017. It ain't gonna happen folks but it was a great start to the year for the the US equities.
