NATO Secretary-General speaking to the BBC earlier 10 Sept

  • calls on NK to abandon nuclear programmes

Also speaking to the BBC UK Defence Minister Fallon:

  • 500 UK troops have been sent to Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, and British Virgin Islands (BVI) in response to Hurricane Irma
  • denies UK response was late in helping British overseas territories

British overseas territories are self-governing but rely on the UK for protection from natural disasters.

On North Korea:

  • UK doing what it can for NK diplomatic solution
  • NK nuclear programme has to be halted
  • Russia has become "more aggressive"

On Thursday I reported Russian president Putin saying that NK will not stop nuclear programme as it sees it as its only means of self defence. This followed remarks made by him on Tuesday which ramped up the rhetoric somewhat and likely to be what Fallon's comment above refers to.
