Manafort pled not guilty on new charges

The FBI's case against Paul Manafort will go forward in September, just months before the midterm elections.

A judge set a trial date for September 17, 2018 and reprimanded Gates for issuing a statement in response to former co-worker Gates' guilty plea.

The accusations against Manafort are related to money laundering and wire fraud from a time far before he became involved with Trump's campaign but it does involve Russian and Ukrainian money so it will be a distraction heading into the November midterms.

The charges would likely mean a lengthy prison sentence, if not life in prison, but he's shown no sign of becoming a cooperating witness.
