Trump tweet on China

The tariffs on steel and aluminum have all pointing to the China dumping oversupply in Canada and Mexico and other nations to circumvent duties on China steel. As a result, Trump has proposed a tariff on all nations to fix the problem.

Trump addresses the China situation in a tweet saying:

Although he says China has been asked for a plan to address a "One Billion Dollar reduction in their massive Trade Deficit with the United States", he really means "their massive Trade Surplus with the United States", I think...

Regardless, he does say we have a "very good relationship" with China despite the dumping and the massive loss of jobs. He has said he does not blame China's Xi but the prior administration.

PS. The U.S. trade deficit with China was $375 billion in 2017. The U.S. exported to China $130 billion while imports from China were $506 billion. Needless, to say, the tweet was not vetted by his staff (Cohn must have slept in). Below is the trade deficit the US runs with China according to the US Census

The US deficit with China was -35.9B in January.
