US stocks close mixed. S&P and Dow rise. Nasdaq falls.

Mixed results before big earnings

The major US indices are mixed today:

• S&P is up 3.25 points or 0.13% to 2560.40
• Dow industrial average is up 71.40 points or +0.31% to 23400.86
• the NASDAQ composite index fell 7.118 points or -0.11% 26556.77

This is all before a bunch of key earnings after the close.
