Broader indices more mixed today
The major US stock indices are ending higher on the day. That keeps the string of winning days in place for 2018. However, the broader indices closed well off the highs for the day.
- The S&P index is ending the day of 3.58 points or 0.13% at 2751.28. The high extended to 2759.14
- The NASDAQ composite index is ending up 6.192 points or 0.09% at 7163.578. It's high extended up to 7181.14 before rotating back to the downside.
- The Dow industrial average rose by 102.80 points or 0.41% to 25385.80. It high reached 25439.78.
The financials tended to do better as interest rates rise. Higher rates tend to help bank earnings especially from their loan portfolio. The major banks will start to report earnings later this week and into next week.

- J.P. Morgan rose 0.60%
- Goldman rose 0.85%
- Morgan Stanley rose 0.76%
- Wells Fargo rose 0.39%

- Celgene added another 1.26%
- Gilead rose 4.97%
- Boeing advanced by 2.69%
On the losing side today:
- Disney fell -0.07%
- Micron felt -5.66%
- AMD fell -3.75%
- Broadcom fell -1.38%
- Intel fell -2.50%
- Netflix fell 1.29%
- Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Nvidia all ended near unchanged levels
