Just a quick note on the hard working ladies and gentlemen at ratings agencies

Over the weekend (OK, it was late Friday but it was the weekend for me!) ...

Fitch upgraded Spain's sovereign debt rating

  • long-term debt rating one notch to "A-" with a stable outlook
  • cited growing economy, improving fiscal situation
  • economic impact of Catalonia effort to declare independence last month have been "limited" ...
  • but the political standoff will weigh on growth

Greece got the thumbs up too - S&P raised the rating on Greek government debt a notch

  • to "B" from "B-" with a positive outlook
  • "The upgrade reflects Greece's steadily improving general government finances and its gradually recovering economic prospects"
