Yellen speaks today after the market closes

The usual thinking is that Yellen wouldn't say anything market moving when the market is closed.

History shows that's not the case. I can think of at least two occasions where she has spoken late Friday or after the market closed and made some comments that moved the dollar.

Today she's in Washington at the National Economists Club and will deliver a speech on 'Monetary Policy Since the Financial Crisis'. There is a text and Q&A from the audience so she will have plenty of opportunities to share her views.

The speech is due at 2330 GMT (7:30 pm ET).

Tomorrow, the Fed goes into its blackout period ahead of the Nov 1 FOMC decision. The market is pricing-in a near-zero probability of a hike that day but will be looking for a signal about December.

The bigger question is whether this will be one of Yellen's final speeches.
