Comments by Dallas Fed president, Robert Kaplan, to Bloomberg
- Prefer to be patient here and let events unfold
- Need to see further deceleration in the economy before deciding
- Fed is in the neighbourhood of neutral rates right now
- A rate cut from here would make Fed policy stimulative
- Risks to the downside have increased due to trade tensions
- Threats against Mexico are having a 'chilling effect' on business
He made similar comments to the WSJ earlier in the day here. Do be reminded that he isn't a voting member on the FOMC board this year though. But the fact that Fed members are continuing to mention to this issue shows that this is certainly playing at the back of their minds and will be an interesting talking point ahead of the next FOMC meeting.
