Morning all, now I don`t want to be too downbeat, but the escalation of violence in Syria is one of the scariest things I have come across since the Bay of Pigs ! If the Assad regime is confirmed as using chemical weapons in an attack on the populace – which allegedly has killed around 1000 people – the political ramifications could be huge. President Obama has already said that such an attack would signify a crossing of `the red line`, and this morning, France has insinuated that force may well be needed. An emergency meeting of the UN security council is also taking place.

The dilemna here is that `something must be done` – but what ! Those who advocate a clinical air strike against the weapons dumps, probably fail to understand that the silo`s are undoubtedly stored in densely populated areas; deliberately placed there to protect against such action. A military assault such as happened in Iraq, would undoubtedly provoke a furious reaction from Russia – if western forces walk into Syria, they will believe that Iran is next – and there is a border between Iran and Russia !!

So, we have to rely on our politicians to make a series of very difficult calls here. Make no mistake people, one wrong move, and this could be nasty.

Good morning…..at least it puts the latest 20 pip move in cable in proportion !!
