- does not expect co-operation from Assad based on previous experience
- latest event in Syria is something the US has to take a look at
- says costs have to be taken into account when looking at how to deal with Syria and Egypt
- US has to be careful of looking like it is aiding and abetting actions that are contrary to US values
- but there is now a” more abbreviated” time frame now for dealing with Egypt and Syria
