Poloz says Bank of Canada intends generally to abandon guidance on the direction of interest rates

Unscheduled comments from BOC Governor Poloz in an interview with Reuters.

  • Does not know if he will take “neutral” out of statement
  • If rate hikes become imminent, he will not signal it because “the market will know”
  • Can be sensible to be flexible about timing of returning to inflation target
  • Guidance should be reserved for when rates or at or near zero

Nothing here really relating to the current outlook. Poloz sounds a bit wonky here.
