Is privacy really that valuable?

Crypto is having a good day in general but Litecoin is roaring. It's up 25% today to $43.27 to the best levels since November 15.

The jump follows news that Litecoin is in talks with Beam to provide extension blocks.

"We have started exploration towards adding privacy and fungibility to Litecoin by allowing on-chain conversion of regular LTC into a Mimblewimble variant of LTC and vice versa," Beam wrote in a blog post.

Litecoin is still down 83% from the highs in December 2017 but this is a bit of good news.

Is privacy really that valuable?

Separately:

  • Bitcoin +8%
  • Ethereum +15%
  • Ripple +8%

I worry that if privacy is the only benefit here then this isn't going to last. There's talk the changes could also improve fungibility. If not this looks like an incredible short squeeze.
